ROVERS have received a major boost ahead of their crucial clash with Brentford on Saturday with the news skipper Rob Jones has signed a new two year deal.

The talismanic centre half has become a firm fan favourite since arriving from Sheffield Wednesday last summer, receiving tremendous credit for his part in Rovers’ charge for the Championship.

Jones will continue his player-coach role until 2015 and is delighted to extend his stay.

He said: “It’s been a good season for me both on the field and off.

“I felt at home as soon as I came here and when the talks started in January about extending my deal I was very forthcoming in my desire to stay.

“I was happy with the process and glad that it has been done so I can go away in summer knowing I am secure for the next two years.

“The chance had an influence as I have made it known that coaching and managing is where I want to move towards when my playing career ends eventually.

“I would like to thank the owners for giving me the chance to take up this dual role at the club.

“The experience I have gained since January has been invaluable to me and cemented what I want to do in the future.

“The decision was easy for me and was made quickly, as I have enjoyed the extra responsibility but also I am at a good football club with a good group of players who can move this club forward.

“I don’t like to work with people I don’t like and there is not a single player here who I don’t get along with.

“This club is full of players who want to do well and want to influence the team they are playing in which they have showed all season.

“Getting the chance to worker longer with them and with the club for a longer period is just fantastic.”
