One of the two Manchester giants would be just the ticket for Paul Dickov from Monday night’s FA Cup third round draw.

Rovers earned their place in the hat for round three with a hard fought and entertaining 1-0 win over Dickov’s former club Oldham Athletic.

And while keen to avoid naming names of ideal opponents for the next stage, Dickov hinted that a clash with Manchester United or former club Manchester City is top of his wishlist.

“A club very close to here wouldn’t be too bad,” Dickov told the press at Boundary Park.

“I’ve been lucky enough as a manager to draw Liverpool twice and everyone wants one of the big clubs.

“But really it doesn’t matter. We’re in the hat, we can enjoy the draw on Monday night and that’s the main thing.

“Our main aim, like a lot of lower league clubs, was to get to the third round and we’re delighted to have done that.”

Dickov was full of praise for his side after their performance on Saturday and credited fitness levels in the win, earned with an own goal from Genseric Kusunga three minutes from time.

He said: “We felt frustrated at Barnsley in midweek purely because we felt we should’ve won the game.

“The performance levels were really good.

“I’ve got to give the players credit for keeping going.

“They’re showing a right resilience at the minute. Their fitness levels are fantastic.

“We’ve just had three tough away games in a week and they were still going strong at the end.”

Dickov confirmed Nathan Tyson missed Saturday’s trip with a calf strain and is unlikely to return to training until late this week.

“With all the games we’ve got coming up over Christmas, we’ve got to make sure Nathan is right first,” Dickov said.
