Doncaster Rovers 1 Crystal Palace 0: Dean off to a dream start

JOHN Oster's fortuitous winning goal got Dean Saunders' reign as Doncaster Rovers manager off to the perfect start.

Oster picked up possession 25-yards from goal and unleashed a 65th minute shot which took a huge deflection off Aleksandar Tunchev and completely wrong-footed Palace keeper Julian Speroni.

The match-winning strike, Oster's first goal for 18 months, came just eight minutes after the shock introduction of Billy Sharp - a moment which lifted the roof off the Keepmoat Stadium.

Palace thought they had a case for a penalty when Glenn Murray was brought down by George Friend during a drab first half, while Neil Sullivan twice had to deny Murray with smart saves either side of the interval.

But Rovers were a different side following Saunders' decision to bring on Sharp and Milan Lalkovic for debutant Jon Parkin and James Coppinger.

And the new manager was a picture of joy at the final whistle - punching the air with delight as Rovers ended their 19-game run without a league win.
