A first half Naomi Oldridge brace set Doncaster Belles’ table-topping under-15s on their way to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, writes Nigel Watson.
The South Yorkshire Division One derby saw the Belles struggle to find their rhythm as Wednesday strung together some neat passes.
However, two quality strikes from Oldridge set the visitors back as her left-foot volley and free-kick saw Doncaster move into a 2-0 lead.
Belles gave a much better second half performance as they used the blustery conditions to their advantage to hold the ball up for their forwards to run at the Sheffield defence.
Good link up play from Jess Hassall and Roza Frydrych then set Toyah Perry up to score at the far post for 3-0.
Despite the visitors still continuing to attack Doncaster’s defence, the hosts put the game to bed when the side’s ‘Lass of the Grass’ Hassall rounded the goalkeeper to complete the scoring in the last minute.
That results leaves Doncaster, who next face Sheffield FC on Saturday, needing just a point from their four remaining league games to clinch the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls County League league title.
