Doncaster Rovers Belles kick off the new FAWSL2 campaign at home to Durham Women tonight (7.45pm).

Belles are aiming to go one better than last season when they finished second in the table and missed out on promotion to champions Sunderland.

This season will see the top two promoted to FAWSL1 as part of plans to expand the top division.

Relegated Everton Ladies are favourites to bounce straight back at the first attempt but new boss Glen Harris hopes to see Belles’ promotion push get off to a perfect start this evening.

Harris said: “Tonight will be a tough encounter.

“All teams start the season with fresh optimism and Durham will be no different.

“Hopefully we can deliver the three points we want to get our season off to a flyer.”

Belles warmed up for this evening’s game by holding FAWSL1 champions Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, with Kasia Lipka netting a last gasp equaliser.

Harris has also guided Doncaster through to the fifth round of the FA Women’s Cup with wins over London Bees and Bradford City.

Belles face a daunting trip to big-spending Manchester City on Sunday when they will bid to reach the last eight of the competition.

Tickets for tonight are priced £5 for adults and £1 for concessions.

n Doncaster Belles under 18s are closing in on winning the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls County League Division One title following a 7-0 win at Dronfield Town Ladies Red.

They host Mosborough Ladies on Saturday.
