Belles said in a short statement released on Sunday that they were close to appointing a new head coach.

The statement read: “Doncaster Rovers Belles confirm that Glen Harris has left the club.

“Glen was an integral part of our promotion success last season as we returned the FA WSL 1 and we are thankful for all of his hard work. We wish Glen every success in his future endeavours.

“The appointment of the new Head Coach will be officially announced shortly, once FA clearance for our new appointment has been obtained.”

Reports emerged on Friday that Harris had left his position at the club two weeks ago.

Last month he said the club needed to strengthen their squad when the transfer window re-opened on June 3.

“We know we need to strengthen because we’re a very thin squad,” he said.

“We’re a couple of players short and we need to put pressure on the players that we already have.

“Those players in my view have not quite come to the standard that they’ve shown in training.”

Belles return to action following the mid-season break at Notts County on June 26.
