Doncaster 57 Sharlston Rovers 10

LEE Waterman equalled the club record for the most tries in a game as the Dons swept into the fourth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

A thoroughly professional performance from Doncaster put paid to fears of slipping up against last season’s National Cup winners Sharlston.

The game was marred with a mass melee at the final whistle which results in the Dons’ Dean O’Loughlin and Sharlston’s Sean Emblem sent off.

However, the day belonged to Waterman who demonstrated the full extent of his pace and power with a blistering performance which began when he opened the scoring after five minutes.

The visitors had Craig Miles sin binned for dissent and the Dons surged out of sight with the advantage.

Tom Hodson went over twice and Kieran Hyde once over the next seven minutes with Waterman converting two.

Sharlston began to force their way into the game and got within five metres with their first full phase.

Waterman added his second on 21 minutes but the next ten minutes belonged to Sharlston.

Danny Glassell and Geoff Hick both went over to halt the Dons’ charge.

But Waterman struck back with his hat trick try which he also converted.

Hyde closed the half with a drop goal to give the Dons a healthy 33-10 lead.

Craig Fawcett was sin binned for dissent five minutes after the break but it would not hold Doncaster back.

Sanderson raced over before the numbers were levelled up again.

And when parity was restored, Waterman ran over twice in three minutes before Hyde added his second.

Waterman sealed is record-equalling score with a minute to go, barging over from five metres.

There was still time for the melee where punches were thrown and O’Loughlin and Emblem singled out for punishment.
