Central Midlands League: Thorne shock VIPs | Harworth retain top spot

Lowly Thorne Colliery produced the shock result of the day in the Central Midlands League North Division.

The Doncaster side became only the second team this season to beat high-flying Westella VIP, a Cameron Johnson goal just before half time deciding a keenly-contested clash at Moorends Welfare.

Thorne’s win meant that Harworth Colliery retained top spot despite being held to a 2-2 draw away to top four rivals Thoresby Colliery.

The home side looked to be on course for victory when opening up a 2-0 lead after just eight minutes courtesy of goals by Jamie Tryner and Lewis Bingham.

But Harworth hit back through Greg Archer and James Woodward to share the spoils and ensure that they retained their one-point advantage over one point advantage over Thoresby, who have a number of games in hand, at the top of the table.

Bentley Colliery picked up their first win in seven matches when beating Sherwood Colliery 4-2.

Dan Read’s hat trick laid the foundations for Bentley’s much-needed win, with Kyle Downing also chipping in with a goal for the visitors.

Harry Joule and Nick Langford shared the Sherwood consolation goals.
