Brodsworth Welfare crashed out of the Central Midlands League Challenge Cup after losing 5-0 at home to third-placed Harworth Colliery in their all-Northern Division second round tie.

Ollie Chappell and Sam West shared four of the Harworth goals with Tom Walker also getting in on the act as Welfare’s disappointing run of results continued.

Local rivals Askern fared little better, slumping to a 6-1 defeat against visiting Sherwood Colliery.

Ethan Webster scored lowly Askern’s consolation.

Thorne Colliery booked their place in the next round when beating fading Northern Division rivals Phoenix.

Leading scorer Ross Ebbage added another two to his tally as fourth-placed Colliery posted a 3-0 away win. Trevor Hindson completed the scoring.

Thorne will play host to Northern Division Clay Cross Town, currently lying seventh in the table, in the third round.

Bentley Colliery could not raise a team for their fixture at Pinxton and the matter will now be resolved by the league management committee.

Meanwhile, Harworth’s second string lost 4-2 against Mickleover Royals in their Reserve Premier Division clash.

Nick Revill and Billy Ball were the Colliery marksmen.
