Bentley Colliery climbed to the dizzy heights of eighth place in the Central Midlands League North Division after claiming their third successive away win.

Cash-strapped Colliery, who have played at least two more games than the teams below them, leapfrogged Sherwood Colliery after beating the Nottinghamshire side 4-2.

Ryan Nicholls bagged a brace for the Doncaster side with Lee Drobac and Matty Brown also chipping in to ensure their seventh win of the season.

With leaders AFC Mansfield left kicking their heels after their game at lowly Brodsworth MW was called off due to a weather-related problem, third-placed Harworth Colliery missed out on the chance to close the gap on the top two sides.

Colliery had to wait until stoppage time to score a consolation goal through Tom Walker in a 4-1 defeat against second-placed Westella Hanson, who reclaimed top spot as a result.

Askern, the only other Doncaster area side in action, also finished empty-handed after going down 3-2 against fellow strugglers Easington United.

United looked to be coasting to victory when leading 3-0 at the break.

But Wayne Lindley and Gary Wilson raised Askern’s hopes of salvaging a result with goals in the final quarter.

The two sides exchanged places after the game with Askern dropping into the bottom two for the first time this season.

Fifth-placed Thorne Colliery, scheduled to entertain Bentley at 1pm today, were also beaten by the weather with their home game against Kinsley Boys being called off.

Harworth Colliery beat hosts Blidworth Welfare by the odd goal in five in their Reserve Premier Division clash.

Danny Siddall bagged two of the Harworth goals with Tom Hogg also getting in on the act.

How they stand: 1 Westella Hanson P 19 Pts 49, 2 AFC Mansfield 17 46, 3 Harworth Colliery 21 40, 4 Newark Town 19 36, 5 Thorne Colliery 14 34.
