We’ve had a good pre-season and it looks like we’ve made good signings.

The target this season is obviously to be up there. Come October, can we be in the top six to eight teams and be in contention?

If Richie Wellens and James Coppinger are firing we have a chance. I think they’re developing a really good player in Harry Middleton too.

Andy Williams looks like he’ll do the job, he seems to have an excellent first touch and eye for goal.

People remind me that he hasn’t scored yet but you have to judge him when he’s started every game and they are competitive games.

If Rovers win, and the striker contributes, that’ll do for me.

I’ve wondered about whether Rovers can play three at the back previously, but if we were to try that, I’d be including Luke McCullough. Alongside two of Gary MacKenzie, Rob Jones and Andy Butler.

That’s purely because McCullough is the best with the ball at his feet, receiving and playing the ball.

The squad this season may seem to lack a bit of pace, but I think it makes up for it with its intelligence.

At home we’ve got to be more productive. People will say the home record was poor last season but we still had one of the best away records in the league.

But the season ticket holders want to see more goals in games. I think if we can go one up in more home games we can kick on and open teams up, because we’re good enough to get at them.

Williams can bang them in, Harry Forrester looks set to start the season on fire, as well as Coppinger.

And the midfield is solid with Wellens and Paul Keegan. Keegan is a better player than he’s given credit for. It’s said that he’s just there to break up play, and perhaps so, but it’s no coincidence that Rovers went on a bad run last season when they had to cope without him.

Where Richard Chaplow fits in depends on the system again. Will Dickov go with a 4-4-2?

Nathan Tyson alongside Williams will cause teams trouble, the only danger is being picked off on the counter, but I hope we can be attack minded at home.

Prediction: Rovers 3 Bury 0
