Bucky’s Blog: Concentrate on the league? That’s absolute nonsense in my book

Rovers weren’t brilliant against Barnsley but I think they deserved to win. They were good, but not great.

They got caught cold a little bit with a set play in the first five minutes, the boy was in acres of space for their goal.

But how Rovers did not equalise in the first half is beyond me.

Ross Turnbull played well and made some good saves. He made two or three great saves down low.

But I think that’s the best game Theo Robinson has had in a Rovers shirt, he played well.

I also like Kyle Bennett when he’s more central, he’s made a difference, as has the goalkeeper. Whenever Sam Johnstone has the ball he looks to counter and I think maybe we weren’t quite up to speed with him at times.

Richie Wellens was effective in the middle. He’s got such a clever football brain.

The game got a bit scrappy after the equaliser and I don’t think we were as forceful, but if anyone was going to score the winner it was Donny.

We should have beaten Crewe as well, but we were behind in both of the last two games and got something.

We’ve just started slowly, if we can get out of the blocks quicker we’ll start doing well.

We’ve still played less games than others teams in the division but the time is going to come when we’re going to play our game in hand. If we can get something from that it will shove us up into the top half.

I don’t think there’s a lot to fear in this division. Apart from a short spell from Sheffield United I’ve not been too impressed by the teams in the league, so I still stick by my play-offs prediction.

Oldham are on a great run, they’ve just scored three past Rochdale just as we did, but I think it suits Rovers to play against better teams.

I still hold out hope for the FA Cup.

Some people you speak to say ‘don’t worry about the cup too much, just concentrate on the league’ but I think that’s nonsense. Players want to be playing as many games as possible.

And we’ve lost one in seven now, so we’re becoming hard to beat.

Let’s keep this run going and try to throw a couple of wins in there, and learn to do at home what’s being done away.

You can talk about Dickov but it comes from the players, they’ve got to drive themselves to do it.

They’ve got it within them, they’re good enough players to do that.
