Doncaster Knights face their second pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday when Sedgley Park Tigers visit Castle Park.

Knights recorded a 68-0 success over Hull RUFC last weekend.

Director of rugby Clive Griffiths is now looking forward to stepping up preparations against the Manchester club.

“I know a bit about them, I coached there for a short while,” said Griffiths.

“I know the people behind the scenes and I know most of their players who are still there and they will provide an extra challenge for us.

“They’re in National Two North now, but in my first stint there they were in the Championship as it is now.

“They’re hell bent on getting back up this year into National One and they’ve selected and put a squad together that will challenge quite vigorously for that spot.

“Essentially they want to get back to National One and get back up to a higher level of rugby at Sedgley Park.

“So the step goes up, and we won’t underestimate them. There’s some very fine people there and I’m looking forward to meeting them all again.”

Doncaster’s winning trip to Hull came at a cost.

Griffiths admits there are a couple of slight knocks within his squad, and says he may look to bring in reinforcements.

“A few boys have taken knocks which shouldn’t affect them for too long but we’re not going to risk anyone that’s 70/30 for example,” said Griffiths.

“We don’t have to, so I’m going to be waiting on a few medical outcomes over the next few days to see who is actually going to start.

“Some of the boys who were on the bench last Saturday will probably start this week.

“But we still have a shortage in the second row so we’ll have to bring in somebody there.”

Griffiths was also pleased with the nature of his side’s win at Hull.

“Being the professional side we should be dominant in the contact departments and we did that. That was pleasing.”
