Doncaster Knights host Esher in a top-of-the-table clash today and head coach Clive Griffiths wants their defeat last time out to inspire them back to winning ways.
Knights suffered just their second loss of the SSE National League One campaign last weekend when they were beaten 22-17 at in-form Blaydon.
The defeat allowed Esher to move ahead of Doncaster but they have the opportunity to redeem top spot this afternoon.
“We’ve got to dig deep, now’s the time we have to show our mettle,” said Griffiths.
“[Esher] are always going to be up with us, they have grand plans down there, they found out how difficult it was to get back into the Championship last year.
“So we’re in the same boat, we have to defy history by bouncing back straight away but we showed enough in the first few months with a full team that we’ll be a match for anybody.”
No fewer than 12 members of Knights’ squad are missing today as injuries threaten to de-rail Doncaster’s promising start to the season.
“We are really getting spread bare to be honest and it such a shame because we started so positively,” said Griffiths.
“We didn’t underestimate Blaydon it’s just that they did the right things at the right time.
“We got something out of it in the end, who knows how important that bonus point will be but fingers crossed that Lady Luck will now smile at us for the weeks ahead.
“You can either curl up in a corner or stick your fists out and fight.”
