There will be nothing friendly about the Knights’ main pre-season warm-up game this summer.
Fierce local rivals Rotherham Titans will visit Castle Park on August 24, one of three home matches for the Knights as they prepare for life in National One.
Sheffield Tigers open the warm-up game programme on August 17 with Hull RFC visiting on August 31.
But it is the game with Rotherham that will get the blood pumping, particularly as it will also see the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy contested.
Set to be a part of the trio of matches is the Knights’ latest signing Will Foden.
The 24-year-old open side flanker has plenty of National League experience having skippered Cinderford for the last two years.
And director of rugby Clive Griffiths believes the former Gloucester, Hartbury and Stourbridge player will be a valuable addition to the squad.
“He’s strong over the ball and will make his presence felt at the breakdown,” Griffiths said. “Will is a solid defender who does not shirk his tackle.
“He knows all about the territory we are about to visit so his on-the-ground knowledge will prove invaluable.”
