Doncaster Knights have signed former New Zealand Under 21 star Chris Walker.
The 27-year-old flanker was a member of the New Zealand Maori team that defeated an RFU Championship XV 52-21 at Castle Park last November.
Walker spent eight years at Kiwi province side Taranaki who compete in the ITM Cup, the highest level of domestic professional rugby in his home country.
The loose-forward was also pivotal in Taranki lifting the Ranfurly Shield in 2011.
Walker said: “I’m really looking forward to playing for the Knights this year, Clive has talked me through the aims and ambitions of the club and it’s all very positive.
“I’ve never played in the northern hemisphere so I am looking forward to experiencing the different style of play and bringing some of my own influences into the team.
“The set up here at Castle Park is very professional.
“The guys all seem dedicated to the cause and I’m just looking forward to getting stuck into it.”
Knights are hosting a ‘Meet the Players’ event at Castle Park on Friday, August 9 (7pm).
The evening includes a two-course meal and entertainment in the company of Knights players and coaching staff.
Tickets cost £15. They must be booked in advance by calling Chris Elliot on 01302 831388.
