DONCASTER Knights boss Brett Davey is hoping to retain the services of young Leicester Tigers prop Keiran Brookes for Saturday’s eagerly-awaited Championship derby against Rotherham Titans at Clifton Lane.

“We brought Keiran in on a short-term deal because we had five of our props injured and unavailable for the British & Irish Cup game at Nottingham,” said Davey.

“He’s come here to get some games under his belt, as he’ll be needed shortly by Leicester, he had a really good game.

“Tom Davies played on Friday, in what was a game we had to win, and some of the others should be back really soon.”

Andy Brown, who made a delayed start to the season after suffering a serious knee injury, is one of the front-rowers currently sidelined after suffering a knock to the same knee.

“It’s frustrating to be out injured again, though the injury is nowhere near as bad this time,” said Brown.

“I’m making good progress and would love to play against Rotherham on Saturday but it might be a bit too early; I’ll have to wait and see.

“But whoever plays at the weekend we’ll be going there in good spirits after back-to-back wins.”

Said Davey: “You know what you are going to get from Rotherham at Clifton Lane. It’s a tough place to go.

“They are big up front and big in the back and it will be an interesting challenge for us.

“We’ve got two tough games coming up before we have a week off - we entertain Bedford next week, and we’ll be looking to pick up points from both games.”
