Knights favourite Bevon Armitage says there will be no brotherly love when he locks horns with brother Guy on the opening day of the season.
The Knights kick off their Championship campaign with a mouth-watering home clash against newcomers London Welsh, who happen to feature the youngest member of the Armitage rugby dynasty.
Bevon insists he will not be pulling any punches against his sibling as the Knight look to make an early statement.
“It’s definitely going to be fun taking on the younger brother,” he said. “We’ve already started having a bit of banter over the phone about how it’s going to play out.
“It’s been an ambition for a long time to play against one of my brothers. I thought it might have been Delon or Steffon unfortunately that never happened but now, hopefully, I’ll get to go up against Guy, which is even better.
“I know how he plays I’ve watched him quite a bit over the years, he’s pretty good.
“He’s a big strong ball carrier and he’s got good offloading ability which you have to be wary about but trust me I’d love to put a good hit on him.”
Armitage may be planning a tailor made welcome to Castle Park for his youngest brother but he has been given a warning from the family’s highest authority.
He said: “I’ve spoken to Mum about the game and lining up against Guy. She said not to hurt him, I think Mum and Dad are planning to come up for the game so we’ll have to be on best behaviour.”
Family rivalry aside, Armitage believes the timing of the London Welsh clash suits the Knights and that preparations to date couldn’t have gone better.
He said: “I think the fixture is at the right time for us, it’s the first league game and things will still be a bit new with players still settling in plus we’re at home.
“If we played them half way through the season they would probably be ticking over a bit better so hopefully we can catch them out.
“Pre-season has been really good, the new boys have come in and bought into everything straight away; we’ve gelled really well and there can’t be any complaints so far.”
