An X-rated saucy photo has turned a Doncaster mining village into an overnight web sensation.

The village of Skellow was thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after a Twitter user discovered that typing the village’s name into search engine Google provided quite eye-opening results.

For rather than a photograph of the village, web users were presented with a picture of a man in an explicit snap - with his modesty hidden only by a towel.

Twitter user David Firth made the discovery at the weekend and took to social media to reveal his findings.

He tweeted: “Don’t think the people of Skellow, South Yorkshire would be happy with how Google pictures them,” before posting a link to the picture.

The news was soon picked up by online news and social media site Buzzfeed with the story being viewed 100,000 times while the story also went viral on Facebook and Twitter.

The photo, which is too explicit to reproduce, orignates from a blog called Housequake, with Buzzfeed reporting the photo may originally have been taken by someone in Wigan.

However, it is thought Google may now have rectified the problem and users typing in Skellow may not be met with the same image.
