a WOMAN was taken to hospital after a man punched her in the face and knocked her unconscious in a town centre nightclub.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the assault that left the 40-year-old woman with a one inch cut on her forehead, a bump to the back of her head and sprained right wrist.

The incident happened in a nightclub on Priory Walk on Sunday May 13 at approximately 1.35am.

The woman was with a group of friends on the dance floor, when one of them stumbled and fell backwards into a group of four young men, who then pushed her across the dance floor.

The 40-year-old woman went over to the men but before she was able to speak, one of them is believed to have punched her in the face causing her to fall unconscious to the floor.

The man who is believed to have punched the woman is described as around 20-years-old and white.

He is of a slight build with curly dark hair that was longer at the nape of the neck and he was wearing a vest top.

The other three men are also described as around 20-years-old and white.

Two of them were wearing vests, one grey and one blue, and the third man was wearing a red T-shirt.

It is believed they may be from the Askern area of Doncaster.
