Williams labels Rovers drop talk '˜dramatic'

Rovers head to Swindon Town tonight sitting just three points clear of League One’s bottom four.

But Williams believes with 14 games still to play that Rovers will be fine come the end of the season.

“It’s a bit of a dramatic way of looking at it,” said the matter-of-fact striker when asked about a potential relegation dogfight. “If you want to be dramatic like people were with the play-offs a few months ago then you can look at it like that.

“A lot of people made a lot more of the good run that we did here.

“We were still always sitting in the middle of the table or the lower half of the table but a lot of people got excited at the time and we couldn’t follow up with that excitement on the pitch.

“It’s strange the way things go but we were always up against it with the way we started the season. Any little dip in form means you’re likely to be looking over your shoulder a bit.

“But we’re confident we’re good enough group to pick up the points we need.

“We’re a group that is confident that we will get the points we need to stay in this league.

“We’re more than confident we will do that.

“I think people look too far ahead, to the finish line, whereas we look at it as being 14 games away from that.

Tonight’s game sees Williams return to his previous club Swindon for the first time and he admits he is looking forward to it.

He said: “I met a lot of good people there.

“It’s the place where me and my wife had our first child so there’s lots of happy memories there.

“I didn’t quite achieve the success I went there to achieve but it will be good to go back and see some familiar faces and friends.

“They’ve picked up of late but they’ve had a bit of a rocky season so it’ll be interesting to see where they finish.”
