Former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Dean Furman has signed for South African Premier Soccer League side SuperSport United.

SuperSport announced the signing of the South Africa captain yesterday on a two-year deal at the club headquarters in Randburg, Johannesburg.

Furman, 27, who has been given the number eight shirt, said he was excited to work under the coach Gordon Igesund who gave him his South Africa debut in 2012.

“These are obviously very exciting times for the club and for me,” said Furman.

“Hopefully, I can come here, cement my place in the starting eleven and do well for the club. I’m looking forward to bringing a bit of experience to the side.

“I’m a player who is fairly comfortable on the ball and have a good passing range which is probably the strongest part of my game.

“I’m looking forward to making the team tick under the guidance of coach Gordon Igesund.”

Furman had trained with Blackburn Rovers and Bury after leaving Doncaster at the end of last season.

Former Rovers right back Reece Wabara, meanwhile, made his debut for Barnsley as a second half substitute in last night’s 2-1 win at Millwall.

Wabara has signed a short term deal with the Reds until January.

Jamie McCombe and Liam Wakefield have dropped down to League Two since leaving Rovers, joining Stevenage and Accrington Stanley respectively.

Youngster Alex Peterson is now playing for Scarborough Athletic in the Evo-Stick League Division One.

Theo Robinson has been on trial at Portsmouth and Stevenage but has so far failed to win a deal anywhere.
