Warning over bogus callers

POLICE are warning Dearne residents to be extra vigilant against bogus callers as the summer period usually brings a spate of incidents.

Officers in Rotherham warned these criminals often seem genuine and claim to be from water, gas or electricity companies.

Residents are advised to always check their details and do not open the door to them if you are suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Robinson, head of Rotherham CID, said: “If someone asks for your help, needs a drink of water or suggests that they are there on behalf of a water or electric company, offering to do roof repairs, especially if reference is made to checking the loft, or has lost a ball then please check their details.

“If you do open the door, always use the door chain or bar. I would appeal for any information that will lead to the identity of people who are committing these offences.

“The message I will give out to any would be offenders is, be careful, we are looking for you.”
