CRIME: Crime scene.

Yvonne Hunston, of Exeter Road, Wheatley, had her bag stolen in the sneak-in burglary after she forgot to lock her front door overnight.

Mrs Hunston says the incident is the fifth one of its kind in the area over the last few months.

She said: “I woke up and the door was wide open. At first, I thought my grandchildren had been round but then I realised my bag had gone.

“My son found my handbag dumped in a garden a few doors down but the £100 cash in my purse had gone and my bank card.

“When I checked, £350 had been taken out of my account.

“People need to be aware that there’s someone going around just trying doors and be on their guard.

“The thought of someone being in my house makes me sick, we need to catch this person.”

A police spokesman said: “It is believed that sometime between 8pm on Friday and 3.10am the following morning, offenders unknown have gained entry into the house via the back door and stolen a handbag containing a purse.”

Call 101 with information, quoting incident number 376 of February 13.
