A unique competition to name Doncaster’s gritting lorries has received backing from Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody - after it was decided one of the lorries would be named after his band.
Members of the public and youngsters from schools across Doncaster have been suggesting names for the town’s fleet of gritting trucks.
Pupils from Thorne Green Top Primary School decided to name one of them Snow Patrol and lead singer of the hit band Gary Lightbody not only gave his consent to use the band name but also said he ‘loved’ the idea.
On Twitter he said: “Ha. I love it. If you are so inclined then please use it with our blessing. Hope you are all well.”
The council tweeted: “We will have to make sure Snow Patrol does his job properly, and doesn’t waste time chasing cars.
Other imaginative names include Brad Grit, Winter Warrior and Usain Salt.
More names will be announced over the next week, while the lorries will be badged up with their new identities before Christmas.
