A Doncaster town centre timepiece is set to tick again.
The clock on the corner of Sunny Bar and Market Road is to be restored to working order once more after being out of action for several years.
Repairs to the clock, opposite the former Doncaster Free Press offices, have been funded by a Doncaster couple who wish to remain anonymous.
The same couple are also understood to have paid for the clock in Christ Church to be restored to working order in recent years.
Renowned Derby-based clockmakers Smiths is carrying out the repairs which are already underway with the clock faces being removed from the tower.
The clock was formerly the timepiece at Clock Corner but was replaced during widening of Baxtergate in the 1890s.
It was originally housed on top of the town’s Plant Brewery with the building below now housing a taxi company and nail bar.
Dave Wilkinson, assistant director of Trading and Support Services at Doncaster Council said: “We are happy to have been able to support the local couple who have paid for these repairs.
“Re-wiring and renovation work will see the clock tower restored to its best.”
