Doncaster's St George's Bridge has been closed off tonight by police and the air ambulance called in after a major incident.
According to eye witnesses, the Bentley end of the new bridge was closed off shortly before 7pm and a number of police cars, ambulances and fire engines have been at the scene.
A number of police cars raced to the scene and a number of officers were seen running to erect barriers and block the bridge off to motorists. Details about the incident are still coming in but several eyewitnesses have said that a woman appears to have sustained serious injuries after she was in collision with a vehicle.
There have been reports of a motorbike and pedal cycle involved.
Video taken by a reader at the scene shows the air ambulance on the carriageway while other pictures show the helicopter above the blocked carriageways.
It is understood cars heading into Doncaster town centre are being diverted along the A19 in Bentley. Motorists in the Bentley, Sprotbrough and Scawsby and Scawthorpe areas are facing severe delays as traffic builds up.
One eyewitness said: "We couldn't see an accident but the police were moving quickly like something had just happened."
Details about the incident are still coming in but several Facebook have said that the air ambulance has been called in to airlift the victim of the incident to hospital.
