VIDEO: Man arrested over suspected rapes on Transpennine Trail in Doncaster

A man has been arrested after a suspected rape on the Transpennine Trail in Doncaster.

Police have been combing a cycle path in after the suspected attack near a Bentley retail park as part of the investigation today.

Officers have been speaking the the public near the area, off York Road, after the incident which is thought to have taken place yesterday morning next to Bentley Road.

Officers were asking members of the public if they had any information about an alleged rape at around 11am yesterday.

A police statement said: “A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape following two reports being made to police yesterday (Thursday, 10 September).

“Two women reported they had been attacked by an unknown man on the Trans Pennine Trail, close to Grove Avenue in Bentley, at around 11.15am yesterday morning.



“The man is currently in police custody being questioned by officers.

“The two women are receiving support and assistance from specialist officers.”

One man who lives locally said there were three police vans parked in the area on Thursday, This morning there were five police officers still there, including scene of crime officers.

The police search was along a patch next the the retail park which includes a Morrison’s Supermarket.

He said: “The cycle path next to Morrisons goes all the way to woodlands and there is no lighting and it attracts untoward people sometimes.

He said he had seen people taking drugs there, and had heard a story about a dog having to be taken to the vets after ingesting drugs there.

“It needs more lighting round there,” he said.

He said officers were asking passers-by, including dog walkers, if they had any information over a suspected rape.
