Footage has emerged of the bare-chested supporter being sent sprawling onto Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium pitch after a man in a high-visibility jacket can be seen swinging a foot at him as hundreds of Burton fans celebrated their club's promotion to the Championship with a pitch invasion.

The clip, taken from Sky Sports coverage of Sunday's 0-0 draw, which confirmed Rovers' relegation to League Two, shows the Burton supporter scramble to his feet again after apparently being floored by the steward. He appears uninjured as he races towards the South Stand end of the ground after the final whistle.

Hundreds of Burton fans gathered at the edge of the pitch in front of the North Stand before the game was over and warnings urging supporters to stay off the pitch were played across the public address in the closing minutes of the game.

As the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the game, hundreds of Albion fans, clad in yellow and black, raced onto Rovers' pitch to congratulate their players and celebrate.

But the clip has provoked anger among Burton fans after the supporter in question, named on Facebook as Will Bower, shared it online.

He said: "So today I got taken out by a steward, many people saying this should be taken further?"

Fellow fan Calvin Ward said: "Watch the shaven headed thug randomly kicking out.

"Hold on a minute, it's a Doncaster Rovers steward!!! That idiot should be given community payback for that. Disgusting."

Other Burton fans were also angered by the scenes which came at the end of a tense encounter which saw the club promoted to the second flight of English football for the first time in their history.

Lisa Martin said: "Not sporting, I'd report him" while Lee Milligan wrote: "Both stewards kicked out when you watch it closely. Report it to Burton police and the club as you have evidence."

Emma Kate added: "Report it or else they will do it to others. They shouldnt be allowed to get away with it."

And Owen Robinson added: "Disgusting. This should be raised with the club and his security badge removed !!!" while Connor Leach said: It's assault mate - if he did it on the street he'd be facing a charge so why not for doing it on the pitch..."
