VIDEO: Doncaster Brewery Tap opens

A haven of real ales and ciders has been officially opened in Doncaster today.

Doncaster Brewery has operated for two years on Young Street and has now opened a tap room so visitors can watch the brewing process, while enjoying their favourite tipple.

Co-owners Alison and Ian Blaylock, of Wheatley, said they were proud top be opening a new town centre venue at a time when others are closing.

Mrs Blaylock, 46, said: “We want it to be a quiet place where people can come for a drink and have a chat. There is also a viewing window so people can watch Ian brewing the ale.”

She added: “Pubs are essential to communities, especially at a time when places like post offices and libraries are closing.”

There will be five ales from the brewery itself, plus a guest ale and cider.

MP Rosie Winterton, who is backing the Doncaster Star’s Save Our Pubs campaign, officially opened the venue this afternoon.

She said: “This is an incredibly exciting day for Doncaster Brewery. It is a nice place where people can come and it is very much a community pub.”

Doncaster’s civic mayor Pat Haith added: “I just hope this is the start of something big for Doncaster Brewery. The role of pubs is to bring communities together and it is important that we keep these open.”
