VIDEO: Dearne Valley College students win water sports competition

Dearne Valley College students have beaten Doncaster College students in a water sports competition.

Public Service students from each college competed in a variety of activities in the inter-college event at Manvers Boathouse and Lake, Rotherham.

The event saw each college enter two teams to compete in the activities, which were designed to test the students’ skills.

The teams took part in canoe polo, team sprints in a variety of canoes and kayaks, and raft-building using barrels, wood and rope, to score points and compete for the prestigious trophy.

Public Services tutor at Dearne Valley College, Paul Meares said: “It was a fantastic day for all, allowing the students to put their team work, physical activity and leadership skills into practice. After this year’s success we hope to be able to make it an annual event, with more college’s competing for the trophy.”

The results were close, but Dearne Valley College students came out victorious, taking first and second place to win gold and silver medals and the winner’s trophy.

Dearne Valley College is still accepting applications for this year, for courses in Public Services, Sports and a wide variety of other full-time and part-time courses.
