Officers are investigating an incident at a Doncaster hotel, during which burglars stole a 'small amount of spirits' before torching the empty building.
Emergency services were called to the White Swan Hotel in Balby Road at about 4.40am on Sunday morning, following reports that persons unknown had entered the premises.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Officers are investigating following a reported burglary at an empty hotel in Doncaster.
"A small amount of spirits were taken during the incident and small fires were set within the premises, causing minor damage."
A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed that the fires were believed to have been started deliberately.
Two engines from Doncaster station and one from Edlington station were called out to the blaze.
Fire crews left the scene at around 5.40am, after the fire had been extinguished.
