Rotherham U15s rise fromm the ashes.

Five years since their last competitive game within local school league football, Dearne Valley College has welcomed back the Rotherham Schools Select Under 15s team.

A lack of finances, facilities and coaching staff meant that the Under 15s project came to a halt in 2009, but with new staff and local sponsorship, the Rotherham team is firmly back on the local school league map with a string of impressive victories. The talented side has recently beaten rivals Barnsley and Nottingham to make a strong return.

The team is now sponsored by Dearne Valley College, training at the College’s sports facilities which includes full sized grass pitches, the latest Astroturf and an on-site gym and sports centre, among others.

The College’s Academy of Sport manager, Richard North, initiated contact between the schools to discuss the opportunity of restarting the team and added: “I was amazed by the interest I received and very quickly I had more than 40 nominations for school pupils from a range of Rotherham schools.”

“With support from the Rotherham Schools Football Association, and the appointment of a qualified Coaching team led by Matthew Rose of Maltby Academy, the team quickly took shape and began looking like a confident side. The boys have been fantastic at adjusting to new ideas and levels of play.”
