Tributes have been paid following the tragic death of a the co-owner of a prestigious Doncaster stately home.
Michelle Gee, who ran Rossington Hall with her husband Gary, died last week at the age of 48 following a cancer battle.
The couple purchased the hall, originally built in 1771, in May 2011 and restored it to its former glory, turning it into a luxurious restaurant and wedding venue.
A post on the venue’s Facebook page said: “Our hearts are broken, our eyes are heavy with emotion.
“It is with immense sadness that we have to announce the passing of co-owner of Rossington Hall, Michelle Gee.
“As many of you will know, Michelle had fought a long, courageous battle over the years and she has been an inspiration with her incredible outlook on life.
“Michelle will be very much missed by all who knew her at Rossington Hall.
“All the team will strive to support Gary over the coming years by developing Rossington Hall to reach its full potential.”
Originally built in the 1700s as a family home, the original hall, also known as Shooters Hill, was burned down towards the end of the 19th century, but was rebuilt in 1881 and retained its original use as a family home.
After the last resident passed away in 1937, Rossington Hall had a number of uses over the years including a training college for missionary priests and as a school for children with learning difficulties.
Unoccupied in recent years it had fallen into a sad state but four years ago, the couple purchased the hall and 250 acre estate and restored them to their former Victorian glory.
Gaynor Waddington posted a tribute on the Rossington Hall Facebook page which read: “A truly beautiful and courageous lady who will be missed by everyone whose heart was touched by her. Gary, family and The Pooles, our love and thoughts are with you at this sad time. Sleep tight lovely lady xxxxxx.”
Stacey Clapham added: “Condolences to Gary and your family and friends.
“Michelle was such a lovely lady, full of life and fun. Although the time spent with her a few years ago was short she has remained in my thoughts ever since. An unforgettable lady. RIP xxx”
Stacey Holmes wrote: “RIP Michelle, such a lovely, friendly lady, my thoughts are with her devoted husband Gary, family and her Rossington Hall family. Good night and God bless xx.”
