Tributes as cyclist dies in collision

TRIBUTES have been paid to a keen cyclist who died after a collision with a van.

Steven Shaw Prime, of Station Road, Hatfield, was on the A18 between Crowle and Thorne when he was in a collision with a Mercedes Sprinter van.

Officers believe Mr Prime was cycling in front of the van prior to the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A neighbour of Mr Shaw Prime’s, who did not want to be named, said she believed the 47-year-old lived by himself.

She added: “He kept himself to himself but he seemed like a nice man.

“He was always on his bike, he would cycle for miles. We never saw him in a car in fact, I don’t think he had one. He went everywhere on his bike.”

Neighbours also said Mr Shaw Prime was a regular at Hatfield Church.

Police said the 27-year-old driver of the white van suffered minor injuries and was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision which happened at about 5.15am on Wednesday, January 11, and are appealing for witnesses.

Witnesses to the crash, or anyone who may have seen Mr Shaw Prime or the van in the moments before the collision, should call Humberside Police on 101 referring to log 56 of January, 11, 2012.
