Musicians will be faking it on stage in Doncaster '“ much to the delight of thousands of fans.
Tributes to Queen, Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon are headlining Doncaster Fake Festival 2016, marking the 10th anniversary of the festival series, which sees some of the country’s leading tribute acts perform in giant marquees across the country.
Tickets are now on sale for the Doncaster event, which takes place at Sandall Park on Saturday, May 7, and also features five local bands in support.
Jez Lee, Fake Festivals owner, has handpicked The Goodfellas, The 48K’s, Ginger Tom, Off The Wire and Diamond White Riots to perform in Doncaster.
He said: “It is a lengthy task selecting support bands for the festivals and support submissions start rolling in from September onward.
“We are fortunate to receive hundreds of applications to perform on our main stage and we do listen to each submission.
“There is no set criteria for choosing the artists, we just have a listen to them, check out their social media and then decide if their sound is right for our event.
“We do, however, like to ensure the artist is professional, as we take the quality of our entertainment seriously and we do not want the crowds to be disappointed.
“We feel we get the right balance of original and covers artists which mixes the day up, and also gives up-and-coming bands a chance to showcase their music.”
Diamond White Riots will get the party started at 1.15pm, followed by Off The Wire, Ginger Tom, The 48K’s and The Goodfellas, before the first tribute act.
Kings of Leon tribute Kings of Lyon are first up at 6.45pm, followed by Foo Fighters tribute Four Fighters at 8.30pm and Queen tribute Flash, at 10.15pm.
A concert spokesman said: “The Goodfellas, a popular Doncaster covers band, will be warming up the stage for the main tributes, with their lively mix of songs from the 90s and Noughties.
“They will definitely get the crowd bouncing with their ever popular indie rock covers.”
The spokesman said: “The 48K’s are one of Doncaster’s finest and most talented original bands.
“They have gigged with some well-known names such as The View, The Enemy, Reverend and The Makers and Cast.
“BBC6’s Steve Lamacq has recommended The 48K’s as ‘one to watch’ and the band released their latest EP at the end of last year. Make sure you catch them on the Fake Festivals stage before they hit the big time.”
The spokesman said: “Ginger Tom is a harmony driven rock/pop band from Doncaster.
“Performing their own original music, their songs are strong and concise from the outset, displaying superb guitar vocal talent, backed by a solid dependable rhythm section.
“These guys will be sure to get your feet tapping.”
Off The Wire and Diamond White Riots
The spokesman said: “These two will be kicking off the festival with their mix of originals and covers.
“Both bands are from Doncaster and will be getting the crowd in the festival spirit with their great sets of tunes, getting everyone singing and dancing along inside the big marquee.”
