Mitchell, aged 17, was named Junior Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year 2016. Meanwhile Thomas, earned a second place win in the senior competition, receiving a £150 prize alongside his trophy.

While the competition - which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary - has been a long-standing fixture on the industry calendar, this was the first time there have been separate contests for juniors and seniors.

The final heats of the competition were held at Doncaster College’s Hub campus in October.

A spokesman for the college congratulated both apprentices and added: “Apprenticeships really do deliver for you. Follow in the footsteps of Mitchell and Thomas and you’ll build knowledge, skills, and work towards a qualification that employers want to see on your CV, enhancing your job prospects.”
