Work is set to start this month on a programme of improvements to the public toilets in a Doncaster town.
Thorne Moorends Town Council is looking to carry out the work to the loos in The Green, Thorne.
The council says the toilets will be completely refurbished internally so that an attractive, modern facility is provided for the town.
Officials say they currently provide a poor quality facility, but the building is structurally sound. The improvements have been designed to be ‘hard wearing’.
Town Mayor Coun Richard Walker said “These toilets have been allowed to run down over a number of years, and were in danger of closure. The Town Council took them over from Doncaster MBC to prevent closure, and have now managed to secure a funding package to allow them to be comprehensively improved which will secure a much needed facility in the centre of the town”.
Grant funding for the scheme has been secured through the Town Centre Innovation Fund managed by Doncaster Council, with contributions from the Town Council and Doncaster Council.
The toilets will be shut for about three weeks to allow works to be carried out.
