Thorne resident Olive Wall has been awarded the Walking for Health Exceptional Service accolade.
Every week she leads a morning walk through Thorne and her commitment and love for the popular pastime is an inspiration to many - not bad going for an 80 year old!
Former Guide Leader Olive has been leading Tuesday morning walks around Thorne with the local walking group since 2005. Despite having a heart attack in 2010, it wasn’t long before she was donning her walking boots and getting back to her favourite activity.
Olive said: “I’ve always loved walking from a very young age and it’s a passion that has never left me.
“I’m thrilled to receive the Walking for Health Exceptional Service Award – I’m very touched and I would like to thank my friends in the Thorne Walking Group for their tremendous support over the years. There’s usually 15 of us that take part, all ladies.
“We’ve had a few chaps join us on the walks in the past and we like to challenge them to keep our pace!”
Civic Mayor Councillor Eva Hughes, who took part in a walk with Olive and the group, said: “It has been a real pleasure to meet Olive and join her on one of her walks. She is an excellent role model and truly deserving of the award.”
