The Prince of Wales Hospice needs volunteer workers for Doncaster shop

The new store, which is in the Colonnades shopping centre is opening in late July and is the first The Prince of Wales Hospice shop in the area. The new addition will be the eleventh shop raising vital funds for the Hospice.

The Pontefract based Hospice supports patients with life-limiting illnesses, including cancer, motor neurone disease and chronic heart and lung disease. The Hospice cares for patients from a variety of surrounding areas, including Doncaster. Care is free of charge, but it is not free to provide. Only around 25 percent is funded by the NHS, leaving the Hospice to raise over £3 million each year to run its services.

The Hospice is appealing for volunteers to help run the new store and have a variety of opportunities available. Chris Ward, Head of Retail, said: “We simply couldn’t run our stores without the support of our amazing volunteers. “As Doncaster is a new shop, we currently don’t have any volunteer support in the area.”

Chris added: “By volunteering for The Prince of Wales Hospice shops, you’re ensuring we can care for local people with a life-limiting illness, helping them to live their life to its full potential. Opportunities are from as little as a few hours a week, but those few hours can make all the difference to the people we care for.”

People volunteer for lots of different reasons. Some may already have a connection to the Hospice through a family member or friend we have cared for, some wish to give something back to their local community, and others come to strengthen their CV by developing new skills. Volunteering is also a fantastic way to meet people and make new friends. Hospice volunteers are all ages, and come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
