A car park attendant who has gone the extra mile to help patients and visitors to Montagu Hospital during building work has been named Star of the Month by health chiefs.
Terry Platek, of Mexborough, was nominated for the award by colleagues at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who said his infectious good humour is appreciated by patients, staff and visitors to the Mexborough-based hospital.
And they said he has really outshone even his own high standards with the efforts he has made to help patients find their way around during changes at the site due to construction of the new rehabilitation unit.
He has driven through the site to guide the non-emergency ambulance bringing patients from the wards to the temporarily relocated rehabilitation day hospital.
Terry has also uploaded pictures of the new rehabilitation centre being built, onto a trust website.
Janice Edees, who manages the hospital’s general office, which collectively nominated him, said: “Nothing is ever too much trouble for Terry and he always offers service with a smile but his skills have been put to the test in more ways than one while our new rehabilitation centre is being built.”
The award came as a shock to Terry who didn’t even know he had been nominated.
He said: “It has come completely out of the blue, because for me this is just a case of my daily routine – helping everyone is what I feel I’m here to do.”
Terry was chosen as May’s winner of the DBH Stars Award by a panel of staff and managers.
