TWO girl guides are preparing for the trip of their lives after being selected to go to Finland next year for a memorable event.
Pals Nicola Evison and Katie Wormald, both 15, have beaten scores of other hopefuls to win the chance of travelling to Scandinavia after impressing during guide trials.
The Edlington Castle Springs Senior Section caring pair will be flying to Finland in July to join 3,000 other guides and scouts from 40 different countries to take part in activities which could include canoeing near the Arctic Circle and working in the community.
In the meantime they are organising fundraisers to get the £1,500 they each need in order to go.
Katie, who celebrates her 16th birthday on Monday, is doing a sponsored silence next week at The Hayfield School where she is a pupil.
She and Rossington All Saints teenager Nicola are also planning coffee mornings and a mammoth 50-mile bike ride.
Katie’s mum Tracey Wormald, 41, of Castle Avenue, Rossington, said: “They were over the moon when they found out they’d been chosen.
“It will be something that they will remember for the rest of their lives.”
Katie and Nicola are appealing for business sponsorship. Anybody who would like to help can email email@example.com
