Creative pupils at a Swinton primary school have written a song based on a One Direction hit to highlight the importance of recycling.

Youngsters at Milton Special School were presented with £500 worth of vouchers each to spend on useful electrical items after they won a Rotherham Council competition to create campaign material urging people to recycle.

Creative pupils decided to write and record a version of “What Makes You Beautiful” by popular boyband One Direction, which includes Doncaster lad Louis Tomlinson. Their song, entitled “That’s Why We Recycle”, highlighted the importance of disposing of electrical equipment correctly.

Brad Johnson, carbon reduction officer for Rotherham Council, said: “It is important that we help children understand what is contained within electrical equipment and the significant environmental impact they have if not disposed of in a proper manner.”
