Kirkby Avenue Primary has achieved the accolade of being designated a National Support School, and its head teacher, Mrs Bev Lockwood, as a National Leader of Education.

This follows the school’s Outstanding judgement following an inspection by Ofsted in May 2015.

Mrs Lockwood said: “This is recognition of the hard work all members of the school community continue to put in, including the governors, pupils and parents.

“We are a community school with the community at the heart of everything we do and we are very proud of our achievements.”

This month the school was also selected to host one of only 10 national Phonic Road Shows funded by the Department for Education.

The roadshow was planned to showcase outstanding practice in the teaching of phonics and special visitors were in school to witness the proceedings.

Another school, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary, was also at Kirkby Avenue as another Doncaster school shown to be delivering excellent phonics teaching.
