The tale of 22-year-old Billy Jones has been shared hundreds of times on Facebook and Twitter revealing that the hapless holidaymaker supposedly went bust after buying drinks at super club Amnesia on the Spanish holiday isle.

But it seems that many social media users may have been fooled by the story, not realising that the website is known for its spoof news parody stories.

The story, on the Wunderground Music website, said: "It has emerged that a man has been left completely bankrupt after buying a round of drinks in Ibiza super club, Amnesia.

"Known for being a bit of a show off when drunk, twenty two year old Billy Jones from Doncaster, England, is said to have been “absolutely loving life” and “running the island with his squad” whilst on his first trip to Ibiza for a friends stag do, until the financial mishap occurred."

The story goes on to add: “Everyone warned me Ibiza would be expensive but I had no idea just how bad it could be.

"When we got to Amnesia there were some right sexy lass at the bar so I offered to get the first round of drinks for all forty of us on the stag do, as well as this girl and some of her mates. I got one hundred and fifty euros out waiting to pay the bar maid when she laughed and said you need a bit more than that. She asked for nine hundred euros."

“I honestly thought it was a wind up and refused to pay until she got moody and called a bouncer over. He took me into a back room and I thought he was going to batter me until he got out an iPad and forced me to get a Quick Quid same day loan with an interest rate of 296734591130% to ensure I paid up.”

The story concluded: “I only drank water for the rest of the trip but that was still costing me fifteen euros a time.

“I ended up back on that Quick Quid website fourteen times. Back in Donny you can get a round for about twenty people plus ten packets of pork scratchings for six quid. Trying to explain to my girlfriend that I am now twenty three thousand pounds in debt is going to be very tough.”

The story was originally posted in April and has since been shared 33,000 times.
