South Yorkshire youngsters join Riverdance legends for city shows

Dancers from South Yorkshire are performing at Sheffield City Hall during the legendary dance group's run of dates this week.

Riverdance are celebrating their 21st anniversary on this tour.

What began as interval entertainment for the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin became an overnight sensation and is still very popular with audiences. More than 2.9 million people have seen well over 1,000 performances.

The group’s showstopping routine, based on Irish dancing, breathed new life into the tradition and spawned many imitators.

The Irish Times described Rivberdance as “the original… the best.”

The Celtic Rose School of Irish Dancing from Doncaster will appear on the front steps of the City Hall from 7pm and inside the venue during the show’s interval.

Aoife Reilly, aged 11, Ella Mae Holmes, aged 11, and Rose Sansom, aged 12, will wow the crowds with an impressive range of traditional steps and dancing.

Since opening their doors four years ago, Celtic Rose School of Irish Dancing have given children of all ages and abilities a chance to learn traditional Irish dance and perform to audiences at events across Yorkshire.

Celtic Rose founder and dance instructor Claire Scherer said: “It is such an honour for Celtic Rose to dance for the greatest Irish dance show in modern history, especially as they celebrate their 21st year.”
