Students and staff from Barnsley College’s Childcare and Education Professions department visited the children’s ward at the hospital armed with gifts for patients ranging from 0-16 years old.

The visit was instigated by the students who bought presents such as toys, colouring books and clothing for the children.

Student Olivia Myles said: “It was nice to be able to take the presents into the hospital and it was rewarding to see the children’s reaction. I found it emotional knowing some of the children receiving the gifts will be in hospital for Christmas rather than at home.”

Emma Harvey, Tutorial Learning Mentor at the college, added: “Our students put a great deal of effort and time into buying the presents for the children and it was really pleasing to see their faces when the gifts were handed over.”
