Caroline Poland set out on her epic challenge to walk the length of the British mainland in May 2013 and finally completed her journey in May this year when she triumphantly reached John O’ Groats.

She completed the walk in different sections, taking in some of the most scenic parts of England, Wales and Scotland.

Caroline completed the walk as part of a Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign to highlight reports of constraints on the public’s freedom of movement in Palestine compared to the UK’s ‘right to roam’ over vast amounts of countryside.

An online fundraising page showed that she has raised more than £1100 for the Sheffield Palestine Women’s Scholarship Fund, which aims to help young women go to university and protect children’s projects in Gaza.

Caroline said on her page: “Many wonderful friends and supporters have joined me all along the route.” A benefit dinner to raise further money and awareness takes place at St Andrew’s Church in Upper Hanover Street, Sheffield, on Saturday, July 23, at 7.30pm.

A spokesperson for the Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign said: “In May 2016, Caroline stood on top of the most northern point of the British mainland and waved her Palestinian flag thrilled in the knowledge that she had completed this epic journey over some of the most remote moorlands in England, Wales and Scotland.

“For Caroline a highlight of the walk was raising the huge flag on top of Mam Tor with well over 50 people joining her from Sheffield and children in Gaza simultaneously walking in solidarity from refugee camps to the beach carrying messages of thanks and support.
