Shape up for Three Peaks Challenge

DEARNE Valley residents are being urged to take on a New Year challenge and climb the highest mountains in the country for charity.

The Meningitis Trust want to hear from people willing to climb the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in just 36 hours to help people living with the disease.

The Three Peaks Challenge starts at Snowdon in North Wales. Participants, individuals or groups, are then taken by coach to the bottom of Scafell in the Lake District – to trek Scafell in the dark.

Finally, the team is whisked up to Scotland to climb the highest of the three mountains, Ben Nevis.

It will take place between May 11 and 13 and July 6 and 8,

Liv Maybank, who organises the challenge at the Meningitis Trust, said: “The Three Peaks is great fun, a good challenge and a brilliant atmosphere – but places are limited, so sign up now.

“Anybody who’s reasonably fit will be able to manage it, and we have expert guides and support services on hand so you can concentrate on getting to the top and let us worry about everything else.

“I can guarantee those taking part will have a very memorable time.”
