Sat nav raider sent to prison

A MAN has been jailed after breaking into a car to steal its satellite navigation system.

Steven Wright, of St James Street, Hyde Park, pleaded guilty to theft from a car on Ashfield Road, Balby, on Tuesday and was sentenced to 42 weeks in prison by Doncaster magistrates.

The 32-year-old gained entry by smashing a window and taking the sat nav, which had been left on display in the vehicle.

PC James Wiggins urged people to avoid leaving valuables on display in cars. He said: “Items such as sat navs, mobile phones, laptops and even loose change left on the dash board can all attract unwanted attention from opportunistic thieves. Wherever possible, take items with you or ensure they are locked away and completely hidden from view.”
